Thursday February 16: The Sturgeon in San Francisco Bay

7:30 pm at the Randall Museum, 199 Museum Way, San Francisco. Michael McGowan, fisheries oceanographer and aquatic ecologist, will discuss his research on this fascinating fish. This free lecture is part of the Randall Museum’s San Francisco Natural History Lecture Series.

Thursday March 15: Return of the Harbor Porpoises

7:30 pm at the Randall Museum, 199 Museum Way, San Francisco. Bill Keener, cofounder of Golden Gate Cetacean Research, created to study the porpoise, will tell us of their disappearance by the 1940′s, the mystery of their unexpected return in recent years, and how you can help by reporting your porpoise sightings. This free lecture is part of the Randall Museum’s San Francisco Natural History Lecture Series.

Saturday April 14: Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Symposium

MBNMS sponsors this free all-day event in Seaside, CA. Presentations will cover research and conservation efforts in our watersheds, wetlands, kelp forests and the deep sea. View the Program Poster (PDF) for more information and registration details.

Wednesday July 12: Half Moon Bay Fourth of July Parade

Our volunteers dress up as their favorite tidepool creatures and march in the annual parade. Traditionally the parade starts on Main Street in Half Moon Bay at noon. Jukebox the dog, costumed as a nudibranch, was the hit of the parade in 2011!

Saturday September 15: Coastal Cleanup Day Beach Cleanup

In 2011 about 70 volunteers turned up at Mirada Surf and cleaned up along approximately 3.5 miles of beach, trails, and streets.

We picked up 445 pounds of trash and recovered 160 pounds of recyclables.

Saturday October 13: Pumpkin Festival Parade

Pumpkin Parade FloatOur volunteers dress up as their favorite tidepool creatures and march in the annual parade.

Traditionally the parade starts on Main Street in Half Moon Bay at noon.

In 2011 our volunteer group’s elaborate float won first prize!
