The Friends of Fitzgerald Marine Reserve printed newsletter, Between the Tides, is mailed to our membership several times each year. Articles in each issue delve into natural history related to the intertidal environment, the creatures living in it, and the people in our organization and in other organizations who are working to protect them.

The aging trees of Fitzgerald’s iconic Monterey cypress tunnel. ~ What’s at the Visitor Center, Part 3: Sea Turtles ~ As a Marine Protected Area and member of the MPA Collaborative Network, Fitzgerald is piloting an assessment to establish the vulnerabilities of the MPAs to climate change and potentials for adaptive action. ~ FFMR President Ron Olson highlighted our continued focus on education and coastal protection this past year. With repairs made to the bridge, we were able to provide a summer camp for 50 Junior Rangers and introduce Senior Land Tours. This coming year we want to improve access to the Visitor Center and replant the picnic area. ~ We feted our many extraordinary volunteers at the annual luncheon where they were given the critter pin for this year, the gray whale ~ The creature page this issue features stunning photos of the very colorful Christmas Anemone, Utricina crassicornis.
